LEIDEN'S CITY PHOTOGRAPHER

An unforgettable experience! That’s what being presented with Leiden’s ‘City Photographer’ title felt like in 2016. Monique Shaw produced a weekly page-sized photograph for the Leids Dagblad – where every photograph was ‘human and told its own story’, according to those in the know. The photographs and texts have been captured in a striking photo album. The book provides a poignant image of the times – a fantastic view of Leiden and its inhabitants.

BOOK: Leiden between tablecloth and napkin

“Leiden between a tablecloth and napkin” is the title of the year-long journey of discovery through Leiden made by City Photographer Monique Shaw. Leiden is an intimate metropolis which boasts a rich history and where an abundance of interesting people live and work. Sometimes for many generations, sometimes people who travel to and from Leiden from all corners of the world. This has created a city with inhabitants who cherish small ambitions and those who come up with titanic plans – both worlds are addressed in Monique Shaw’s photographs.
